Traditional music that causes a wonderful stir and fills to overflowing every venue – that is Cécilia! Widely recognized as three of Canada’s finest musicians, it is a pleasure to see how much enjoyment Timi Turmel, Erin Leahy, and Xavier Leahy find in playing together. While honouring their heritage as Cécilia, their music making has an undeniably fresh and high-spirited sound.

They bring the best of many musical worlds together in their explorations of traditional, Celtic and Quebecois music. Every one of their pieces is skillfully arranged and highlighted with influences from contemporary, classical, jazz and swing styles. Cécilia’s recent debut album Accent is an impressive offering full of vibrant rhythms and melodies, all resonating with a unique warmth and richness of expression.

Each performance by Cécilia is a call to come out and share – not only in the joy of three dedicated musicians making music together but also in creating with Timi, Erin, and Xavier a unique and memorable musical experience. You’ll find yourself with a smile that lasts long after the final notes of Cécilia’s accordion, piano, and violin have melted away.

Xavier Leahy (also of LEAHY family band) is an artist in his own right. Xavier is touring as the fiddler on this tour, in lieu of Louis Schryer. Growing up on a diet of traditional Irish, Scottish, French, and Ottawa Valley music, Xavier has an appetite for all styles which has grown and propelled him into the worlds of country, jazz, rock, classical, and even electronica! His proficiency on many instruments has brought him both acclaim and attention. Xavier’s deep passion for music is not only obvious in his playing but in his writing and recording as well. With numerous compositions to his name, his sound is uniquely original and reflects his effortless ability to cross genres and integrate many styles into his creations. His heightened instinct for music makes him fearless when exploring the vast musical landscape that lies before him, and his deep respect for the power and gift of music keeps him honest in his pursuit of both excellence and evolution as an artist.
